New Delhi: An FIR was registered against Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, alias Lalan Singh, after he stoked a controversy at a gathering in Mokama, Bihar, by asking Janata Dal (United) party workers to “lock up” opposition leaders and “not let them step out” on polling day, ahead of the first phase of the upcoming state assembly elections.

A video of the incident has been circulating on social media platforms.

Singh, who was campaigning for JD(U) candidate Anant Singh from Mokama, was speaking at a gathering in the town in Patna district.

"There are a few leaders. Don’t let them step out of their homes on polling day. Keep them packed inside," he told the crowd in Mokama, as heard in the video.

"If they make too much fuss, take them along with you and let them cast their vote. Tell them: ‘Come with us, cast your vote, and then go home and rest,’ and then lock them up again,” .

“The video footage of the video surveillance team was examined by the District Administration, Patna. Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Priyanka Bharti shared the video on Tuesday (November 4) on X, tagging the Election Commission and chief electoral officer of Bihar.

“Will you wake up from your sleep and check the authenticity of this gentleman's video saying Bahubali and take appropriate action?” she said in the post.

The Union minister’s remarks come days after Anant Singh was apprehended, on Saturday (November 1), along with two others, in a targeted operation in Barh and Mokama areas of rural Patna, involving nearly 150 Central Armed Police Force personnel, over the murder of Dularchand Yadav – an influential figure in the area who was campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.

Yadav was killed in a clash between supporters of the JD(U) candidate and the JSP candidate in the Mokama assembly constituency. Stones were pelted and shots were fired from both sides. A bullet struck Dularchand in the ankle and he was later found dead.

Dularchand’s family alleged that Anant allegedly shot him in the heel of his left foot with a pistol, causing him to fall. Following the arrests, all three accused were brought to Patna for questioning. He has been sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.

Lalan Singh had earlier alleged that the entire incident involving Anant Singh “is part of a conspiracy” and that it did not happen on its own.

“Sometimes incidents occur naturally, but this one was clearly orchestrated. Several videos have surfaced, and from watching them, it’s evident that the event was deliberately planned," he had told IANS.

Bihar is going to polls in two phases – on November 6 and November 11. The results will be declared on November 14.

This article went live on November fourth, two thousand twenty five, at five minutes past eight in the evening.
