Political Ad Spends Soar to Rs 100 Crore in March, Nine Times Higher Than March 2023: Report

New Delhi: The rolling three-month expenditure on ads, specifically labelled as political ads, has reached nearly Rs 100 crore so far in March – nine times the expenditure in March 2023 at Rs 11 crore, Business Standard reported.

The data is as of March 17.

According to Google, election ads are those that are featured or run by a political party, party member, or a member of the Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha.

The data collection for Google political ads began in 2019.

The rolling three-month expenditure on ads has been the highest since then.

Per Google data, the Bharatiya Janata Party is the largest advertiser, having spent Rs 30.9 crore. The Indian National Congress spent Rs 18.8 lakh during the same period.

The value of Google ads in Uttar Pradesh was the highest, followed by Odisha, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, the newspaper reported.

Video ads accounted for 86.4% of the total money spent on Google ads, followed by 13.6% for ads through images. Spends for text advertising was negligible, the business daily reported.
