New Delhi: Tribal leader Mahesh Vasava, who is also a former MLA from Gujarat on Monday (April 14) resigned from the primary membership of the BJP and expressed his angst by saying that the country is “not being run according to the Constitution.”
Vasava, who is a former MLA from the Dediyapada constituency and son of stalwart tribal leader Chhotu Vasava, tendered his resignation on Monday on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti to Gujarat BJP president C.R. Paatil, reported Times of India.
Vasava had joined the BJP in March 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
"On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, I have to say that the country is not being run according to the Constitution. Adivasis, Dalits, OBCs, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and other poor classes will unite and fight the ideology of the RSS and the BJP,” said Vasava, when asked about the reason for his resignation from the saffron party.
His father Chhotubhai Vasava is the founder of the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP).
"After the election results were announced, the party leaders did not invite me for any party workers’ meeting or public meeting. They have intentionally distanced themselves from me. I will work for the BTP and in the coming days, a political earthquake will come and Bharuch will be epicenter,” Vasava told Indian Express.
The opposition Congress targeted the ruling BJP in Gujarat over Vasava’s exit from the party.
"Vasava parting ways with the BJP on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti reflects the anti-Adivasi stance of the BJP. His resignation has once again highlighted the anti-Constitution approach of the BJP,” said Congress’s media convener Manish Doshi.
