New Delhi: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma found himself in the middle of a security scare as an angry political follower of the TRS party made his way to the stage and attempted to tear away the mic from the seemingly unfazed chief minister.
The incident took place at the Moazzam Jahi market junction in Hyderabad during a Ganesh idol immersion function. Sarma had been invited as a chief guest for the occasion. The incident occurred around 4 pm on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Sarma had taken potshots at the Telangana chief minister KCR.
“Chief minister KCR speaks about BJP-free politics, but we speak about dynasty-free politics. We still see pictures of his son and daughter in Hyderabad. Country's politics should be free from dynastic politics," Sarma told news agency ANI.
"A government should be for the country, for the people, but never for a family. The country has a liberal front and an orthodox one, and polarisation between the two has always existed," he added.
Nand Kishore Vyas Bilal, the man who confronted Sarma, was immediately removed from the stage and subsequently handed over to the police.
Later, while speaking to the media, Bilal accused Sarma of creating a political atmosphere at a religious function by referring to K. Chandrasekhar Rao in a demeaning manner.

In other news, the Election Commission has reportedly sent off its opinion on the sensitive matter of disqualification of the brother of the Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren from holding the position of an MLA. The reference for an investigation into the matter was made by state Governor Ramesh Bais. The EC concluded its hearings on the matter on August 29.
The matter was referred to the commission by Governor Bais following a complaint lodged by BJP state members. The members sought disqualification of Basant Soren, the CM’s brother, from the state assembly for co-owning a mining firm and not disclosing the same fact under Section 9A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Section 9A prohibits elected representatives from contractually undertaking any work with the government that involves “supply of goods” or “execution of any work undertaken by it”
This move will add to the simmering tensions between the JMM and the BJP in the state. The JMM has alleged that the BJP is looking to orchestrate a political coup by poaching its MLAs and, the ruling party, in a bid to neutralise such attempts, relocated 32 of its MLAs from Ranchi to Raipur in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh.
Last month, the EC also recommended disqualification of the CM Hemant Soren for misusing his position and allotting a stone mining lease to himself last year.
