In a forceful and passionate interview to explain why he believes India and its people have repeatedly let down the Kashmiri people, historian Ramachandra Guha says, “harassment and persecution of innocent Kashmiri people is happening only because they are Muslims”. He says there is no one willing to call this to account. As he puts it, “The prime minister is silent, the home minister is silent, the BJP president is silent, every BJP Cabinet member is silent.” He asks, “Have we lost our humanity totally that we behave like this?”

In a 30-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Guha says, “In everything they have done – and not done – since August 5, 2019, the Union government has made it manifest that it wants Kashmiris to be submissive and docile subjects, not free and self-respecting citizens.”
