Kerala: Case Filed Against Hindutva Ideologue Who Said He Would Shoot Protesters
New Delhi: The Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police has registered a case against Hindutva ideologue T.G. Mohandas over his controversial comments made against the protesters at Jantar Mantar.
The case has been registered under Sections 192 and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act, the Hindu reported. The BNS sections relate to provocation to cause a riot and statements intended to cause public mischief.
Mohandas had released a 30-minute YouTube video on how he would’ve dispersed the protesters, saying that he “would have shot” the protestors if he were in control. He also said that women who were a part of these protests enjoyed being raped.
"I will impose a curfew in about a 4 square kilometre area around Jantar Mantar. Then I would announce thrice for the crowd to disperse. After that, I will shoot. People will scatter away and run for their lives. Some may die, some may suffer disabilities. Within four hours, the situation will be calm. Then I will collect the bodies and take them to hospitals," he said.
In another video, Mohandas made remarks about secular women participating in protests, claiming they "enjoy being gangraped". He also said that if someone died in such incidents, the person would be turned into a martyr.
“Rapes will happen, mass rapes…there are girls who like rape…there are people who like rapes, especially, leftist, secular, democratic, proletarian class of people…if someone dies because of this, they will get a martyr…When mass rapes happen there won’t be any complaints, because these are the people who like rape,” Mohandas said in the video.
The videos prompted complaints from leaders of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students Federation (AISF), following which the police registered the case.
It may be noted that while the Delhi police has directed social media platforms to remove ‘derogatory’ posts and videos related to the NEET protest, and go as far as blocking people’s social media accounts, videos like that of Mohandas remain freely available on the internet.
