Lucknow Ground Report: Power Cuts Trigger Protests, BJP MLAs Also Raise Complaints
For the past few days, videos of residents protesting frequent power cuts in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, have been going viral on social media. The Wire visited several neighbourhoods and spoke to local residents to understand who is ultimately responsible for this recurring problem.
On the one hand, outside the Uthretia power substation, we found a large number of damaged transformers lying unattended. On the other, in Faizullaganj, employees of LESA (Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration) were seen repairing electricity poles as late as 11 pm. It became evident that the energy department’s preparedness to ensure a reliable power supply has been severely lacking.
