New Delhi: Members of INDIA bloc parties from strife-torn Manipur have said that they were not allowed to hold a sit-in in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
Kshetrimayum Shanta, the convener of the 10 political parties belonging to the INDIA bloc in Manipur, said that members of the parties had travelled over 3,000 km to highlight the deteriorating situation in Manipur but were denied permission for the protest, reported The Tribune.
“It is very unfortunate that we are unable to exercise our right to protest, despite many people coming from Manipur to Delhi. Our movement will not stop. We will continue to protest in different forms,” said Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra Singh who was is also a member of the delegation that is representing the 10 political parties from the INDIA bloc.
The members of the 10 parties urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur before the end of the year.
“Manipur is also a part of India. Why has there been so much neglect by the Central Government over the last 18 months? Over 60,000 people are in relief camps, and hundreds have lost their lives. How much longer must we suffer?” the MPCC said Singh.
Ethnic violence began in Manipur in May 2023, and has been going on ever since – killing hundreds, displaces tens of thousands and sharply dividing the state along ethnic lines.
