New Delhi: The Janata Dal (Secular), which is a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government, has decided that it will not support the BJP in the latter’s fight against four per cent reservation for Muslims in government tenders.

We will not compromise on the party’s ideology and principles. We will support the BJP in the fight against price hike, guarantees not reaching people, maladministration, corruption etc. But, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda had provided 4 per cent reservation for Muslims. Therefore, we cannot support the BJP in this fight,” said sources in the JD (S), reported Deccan Herald.

The issue was discussed in a meeting of JD (S) in Bangalore on Saturday (March 22), with party leaders advising its legislators to not join the protest against the four per cent reservation. The party also directed Suresh Babu, its floor leader at the Karnataka legislative assembly to make this stand clear when asked by the media.

“Muslim reservation is against the Constitution. We will take this fight against the Congress to a logical end. We will discuss with the party leaders and plan the agitation soon,” said BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, adding that the saffron party will launch a statewide protest against what he termed as “injustice meted out to them by the Congress.”
