Omar Abdullah Calls 'The Kashmir Files' a 'Concocted Story'

"The biggest lie is that there was an NC government [as projected by the film]. It was the governor's rule in 1990 in J&K when the Kashmiri Pandits left. At the Centre, it was the BJP-backed government headed by V.P. Singh," he said.

New Delhi: Calling The Kashmir Files a “concocted story”, Jammu and Kashmir former chief minister Omar Abdullah said that “many lies have been projected in the movie”, India Today has reported.

Speaking to media on the sidelines of a rally in the Kulgam district of South Kashmir, the National Conference (NC) party president wondered if the said movie is a documentary or a film.

“The makers have claimed that the movie is based on reality. But the fact is that many lies have been projected in the film. The biggest lie is that there was an NC government. It was the governor’s rule in 1990 in J&K when the Kashmiri Pandits left. At the Centre, it was the BJP-backed government headed by V.P. Singh,” he said.

Abdullah pointed out that it wasn’t just Kashmiri Pandits who had to migrate or were killed, but many Muslims and Sikhs were also killed. “They too had to migrate from Kashmir and haven’t returned yet,” he added.

He highlighted that his party had always worked towards bringing back the Kashmiri Pandits safely.

The film has become the talk of the town while also generating a lot of controversy for its depiction of the Pandit exodus from the Kashmir Valley in 1990, with many contesting its version of the “truth”.
