Priyanka Questions PM's Interest in Rahul Contesting from Rae Bareli: Why Not Modi from Gujarat?

Gandhi-Vadra also took on Modi for referring to her brother as 'Shehzada' in his political speeches. "I want to tell them how Shehzada walked 4,000 kilometres and listened to people's problems."

New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra on Saturday (May 4) questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not contesting Lok Sabha polls from Gujarat. According to media reports, she wondered if the prime minister’s claims about having developed Gujarat were true, and why Modi was not ready to contest the election from his home state.

Addressing a rally at Lakhani village in Banaskantha district, Gandhi-Vadra also took on Modi for referring to her brother as ‘Shehzada’ in his political speeches.

“They call my brother Shehzada. I want to tell them how Shehzada walked 4,000 kilometres and listened to people’s problems. He talked to commoners and tried to understand their issues. Will Modi ever sit with farmers or labourers and talk with them,” The New Indian Express quoted Gandhi-Vadra as saying.

She also alleged that the BJP aims to change the Constitution and, thereby, would take away the rights of the poor people.

She also took potshots at Prime Minister Modi and called him Shehenshah. She said that Modi lives in palaces. “Have you watched him on television? You will not find dust on his face. Do you think such a person will ever understand your problems?” the newspaper quoted her saying.

She said Modi was resorting to lies by saying things like the Congress would take away one buffalo if somebody had two, The Hindu reported.

“Earlier it was limited to lies, now he talks gibberish that the Congress will steal one of your two buffaloes. The Congress had been in power for 55 years, did it ever steal your buffalo and jewellery using an X-ray machine,” Gandhi was quoted by The Hindu as asking the crowd that had gathered at her rally.

In Banaskantha, Congress’s Geniben Thakor is up against BJP’s Rekha Choudhary. Rekha is a first-time candidate while Geniben is the sitting member of legislative council in Gujarat.
