Rahul Gandhi Urges Everyone to Refrain From Using Derogatory Language Against Smriti Irani

This message came after some Congress supporters made adverse comments about Irani on social media following her recent election loss in Amethi by a margin of 1,67,196 votes to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma.

New Delhi: Congress Rae Bareli MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday (July 12) has urged everyone to refrain from using derogatory language against former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Smriti Irani, emphasising that humiliating others is a sign of weakness, not strength.

Gandhi’s post on social media platform X encouraged respectful behaviour towards political opponents, stating, “I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter.”

This message came after some Congress supporters made adverse comments about Irani on social media following her recent election loss in Amethi by a margin of 1,67,196 votes against Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma. Irani had defeated Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the same constituency.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot praised Gandhi for the move. He wrote, “Wish more would learn from Rahul Gandhi.”

Meanwhile, the BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya alleged that Gandhi’s post was “disingenuous” and that Congress leaders had previously attacked Irani with personal insults. He wrote, “After unleashing Congress leaders like a pack of wolves on the woman who defeated him in Amethi and smashed his arrogance to smithereens, this is rich.”

As per reports, Irani has vacated her official bungalow at the 28 Tughlak Crescent in Lutyens’ Delhi, officials said on July 11. Notably, Irani has taken digs at Gandhi on multiple occasions in the past.
