New Delhi: The Rajasthan Assembly witnessed a ruckus on Friday (February 7) as Opposition Congress MLAs protested against minister Kirodi Lal Meena’s allegations of his phone calls being tapped. The MLAs, donning black bands, raised slogans and disrupted the proceedings, forcing the House to adjourn till 2 pm.

Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Assembly Tikaram Jully demanded the chief minister’s resignation, citing the serious allegations made by Meena. Jully emphasised that the chief minister must clarify the allegations and order an investigation or remove Meena from his post.

Parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel countered the Opposition’s sloganeering, labelling them as “thieves.” However, the Congress MLAs persisted, shouting slogans inside the well of the House and later on the Assembly stairs.

Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra reiterated Jully’s demands, stating that the House would not function until the chief minister provided a clear statement on the matter. Meena, who accused his own government of spying on him, claimed he would not be intimidated, citing a similar experience with the previous Ashok Gehlot-led government.

The chaos erupted on the last day of debate on the governor’s Budget speech, with Jully and chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma scheduled to present their views on Governor Haribhau Bagade’s address.
