Sushil Kumar Modi, BJP Leader and Former Deputy CM of Bihar, Passes Away

Since 1990, when he was elected as a member of the Bihar legislative assembly for the first time, he has been MP of both houses, an MLA and an MLC.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party veteran and former deputy chief minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi passed away late on May 13. He was 72.

Modi had been suffering from renal cancer. Reports quoting officials at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), where he was undergoing treatment, said he died at 9.45 pm.

Modi’s last rites will be performed in Patna today (May 14).

Modi had begun his life in politics as a student activist at Patna University. Since 1990, when he was elected as a member of the legislative assembly for the first time, he has been a member of the Bihar state assembly, the Bihar legislative council, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

He was deputy chief minister of Bihar in two stints, from 2005 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2020.
