TVK-Led Ruling Coalition in Tamil Nadu Named Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance
New Delhi: The ruling political alliance in Tamil Nadu led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and also comprising the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), has been named the Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance (SSJVA), reported The Hindu.
The alliance was formally given the name at its second meeting wherein all alliance partners participated on Wednesday (September 9). The meeting was held at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur. It was decided during the meeting that Tamil Nadu chief minister C. Joseph Vijay will be the chairperson of the SSJVA.
It was also decided that all the alliance partners will work together both in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Following the meeting, a joint press conference was addressed by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore, IUML national president K.M. Khader Mohideen, VCK founder-president Thol. Thirumavalavan and MDMK leader Vaiko, along with TVK leaders and ministers Aadhav Arjuna and K.G. Arunraj.
Answering a question about who will be the prime ministerial candidate for the 2029 Lok Sabha election, state Congress president Tagore said that the parties who are part of the SSJVA were also constituents of the INDIA bloc at the national level and once the TVK will also become a part of INDIA once it had an MP.
Tagore added that the Prime Ministerial candidate of the INDIA bloc would be announced closer to the 2029 Lok Sabha election and CM Vijay would campaign for the candidate.
Notably, the parties which are now part of the SSJVA were also part of the secular progressive alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) during the 2026 assembly election but later extended support to TVK after it emerged as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu.
