There is a strong case to rein in the unbridled abuse of power by the probe agencies under the current regime. If needed, this should be attempted via legislation. In the Delhi liquor 'scam' case, a designated CBI court discharged former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, his former deputy Manish Sisodia and others of any wrongdoing as the court found no substantial evidence.

"Rarely do courts in high profile matters discharge cases. There is tendency to let trials go on even if there's a shortage of evidence," he says.
