Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan is a candidate for the Rampur assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh. Though he has been in jail but his supporters claim that Khan will win 'handsomely' in the election.

The election also represents a contest between two families: that of Azam Khan and Naved Mian. While Mian (Congress candidate) is pitted against Azam Khan in Rampur, their sons are also facing off in the Swar Tanda seat. Abdullah Azam Khan will face off against Hamza Mian, who is the Apna Dal's candidate.
