For the first time, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will be contesting in an assembly election. He will be facing off Union minister S.P. Singh Baghel from the Karhal assembly constituency. Baghel was once considered close to Mulayam Singh Yadav, but he shifted loyalties to BSP before joining the BJP.

Karhal falls under the Mainpuri district, considered a stronghold of SP. The constituency will vote on February 20. Sobaran Singh Yadav of SP is the sitting legislator, who won the seat consistently from 2002 onwards.

With the election in Karhal three days away, The Wire's Yaqut Ali was in the constituency to get the pulse of voters.
