D.K. Suresh is the only incumbent Congress Lok Sabha MP from Karnataka. He represents the Bengaluru Rural constituency and is contesting against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee Dr. C.N. Manjunath.
In this interview, Suresh spoke about why the Congress is banking on the “guarantees” of the Karnataka state government for the Lok Sabha elections in the state. On Manjunath, he underlined that people are fed up with the JD (S) and that could be one the probable reasons why Manjunath has joined the BJP (Manjunath is the son-in-law of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda).
“The BJP is trying to finish the opposition. But, the washing machine is working very well in the BJP. It is a democratic country. We want to save democracy, we want to save the Constitution,” Suresh said when asked about the arrests of former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Further, Suresh underlined that though Karnataka is one of the largest taxpayers in the country, the state is not getting any benefit from the Union government and they are not giving any funds for the development of Bengaluru. He added that Gujarat is getting many benefits while the government is ignoring Karnataka.
“There is no central guarantee. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi abused our guarantees on the streets of Bengaluru and he has taken just over the guarantee name now and is calling it ‘Modi ki guarantee’,” Suresh added.
