Rashtriya Lok Dal chief and former union minister Ajit Singh passed away on Thursday, May 6, after losing battle to Covid-19. He was 82.
He was a seven-time member of parliament (MP) from Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat, and served as Union minister for civil aviation, agriculture, and food processing industries in different governments. He had served in the governments of V.P. Singh, P.V. Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.
He was the son of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and had joined active politics in 1980. As a computer engineer, he worked with IBM in the US before returning to India in the 1980s to join politics.
