Today marks the end of an entire year since the ethnic conflict first began in Manipur. While the first few weeks saw more intense bloodshed, violence continues even to this day, and the Meitei and Kuki communities are living segregated lives within the state. Just in the last week, there have been reports of shooting, of women’s groups stopping the Army from arresting armed civilians who were dressed in police fatigue and also trying to snatch back weapons that had been seized.

The Wire‘s Jahnavi Sen is joined by senior journalist Sanjay Kumar Jha and The Wire‘s national affairs editor Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty to discuss the conflict that has seen no resolution and the BJP state and Union governments’ role. They also talk about why questions have been raised about the Election Commission’s responsibilities and actions during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the heightened anti-Muslim rhetoric in the BJP’s campaign and the sexual assault allegations against sitting JD(S) MP and NDA candidate Prajwal Revanna.
