We’re now very much in the throes of the 2024 elections – dates have been announced, the model code of conduct is in place, parties have begun releasing candidates list and some nominations have been filed. What are the messages the different sides are out to portray? Will they resonate?

On Monday this week, the UN Security Council finally passed a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. It passed because the US decided not to veto the resolution this time, though it did abstain. At least 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza since October 7 last year. What explains this delay in the international community rallying behind a ceasefire?
