The results of the Bengal Panchayat Elections, released by the State Election Commission (SEC), spelt landslide victory for Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

The TMC won over 34,000 gram panchayat seats, while Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win only on 10,000 seats. The CPI(M) and Congress became the third and fourth parties respectively.

Over the election results and their impact on Bengal politics, The Wire spoke to Kolkata-based political analyst Aparna Bhattacharya.

“With this election results, TMC looks much stronger than the BJP. I would question BJP’s claim of winning 35 seats in the 2024 general elections because Muslim voters are still not in their side. Also, TMC as a party is now managing election campaigns in a far better way than earlier,” said Bhattacharya.
