Professor Gilles Verniers, political scientist at Sciences Po, Paris, joined The Wire’s discussion on May 4, the result day for five assembly elections in India. He spoke to The Wire's Jahnavi Sen and Soumashree Sarkar on the dubious shadow cast by Special Intensive Revision (SIR) on these elections, especially in West Bengal.

“The thing is that electoral malpractice usually happens on the numerator (intimidation, violence…). This is the first time that malpractice has taken place on the denominator (the voter list)," said Professor Verniers.
