Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh): “Theft took place in the house of Ram Lalla, such a thing should not have happened”, said Nirmohi Akhara chief Mahant Dinendra Das while talking to The Wire.

He was responding to a question whether more persons from Ayodhya itself should have been made a part of the Trust. As reported earlier by The Wire, nine of the 14 members of the Trust have close ties with the RSS.

Das is one of the 14 members of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Nirmohi Akhara was one of the litigants to approach the Supreme Court in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute, which was ultimately decided in the Hindu side's favour.

As reported earlier by The New Indian Express, Das had been critical of Gopal Rao, a special invitee to the Trust, accusing him of “playing politics.”

“Every transaction should have been accounted for. Even Ram used to follow the norms of society which is why he chose to go to vanvaas (exile). So if something [referring to financial transactions] is being kept secret then that itself amounts to theft,” he further told this reporter when asked about several complaints doing the rounds on social media with people now claiming that they never got a receipt from the Trust in lieu of a gift in the form of silver bricks or other ornaments.

“Since theft has already happened, you do understand very well that Ravana has already reached there. But the chief minister is following up on this all such persons will be sent to jail automatically, and they [accused] can get a death sentence as well,” Das told The Wire when asked whether the temple funds theft case had tarnished the image of both the Ram Mandir and the city of Ayodhya.
