Nirmohi Akhara Moves SC Seeking Reconstitution of Ram Mandir Trust in Line With 2019 Title Dispute Case Judgement
New Delhi: The Nirmohi Akhara, a monastic order of Hindu priests in Ayodhya belonging to the Ramanandi order of the Vaishnavi sect, has moved the Supreme Court with a fresh application seeking that Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust be reconstituted in line with the 2019 Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid title dispute judgement, reported Live Law.
The application has been filed on behalf of Mahant Raja Ramchandracharya Ateet Guru Raghunath Das representing the Shri Panch Ramanandi Nirmohi Akhara.
According to the Live Law report, the Akhara’s contention has been that “while the [2019] judgement envisaged an appropriate role for it [Akhara] in the management of the temple, the scheme framed by the Central Government has effectively excluded it from both the governance of the trust and the conduct of religious affairs.”
The move comes in the backdrop of the Ram Mandir Trust facing allegations of theft with eight persons employed as counting staff by the temple arrested so far, and amidst growing voices of dissent from among priests and former kar sevaks in Ayodhya who now allege that the trust has been running as a fiefdom of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) since it was constituted in 2020.
"The composition and functioning of the trust, unaccountable to, and without any meaningful oversight of anyone,has resulted in a serious failure of custodial responsibility over a public religious endowment”, states the application filed by the Nirmohi Akhara.
Earlier, while speaking to The Wire, Nirmohi Akhara chief and one of the members of the trust, Mahant Dinendra Das had said, “Since theft has already happened, you do understand very well that Ravana has already reached there.”
