New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist Sheikh Abdul Hafiz, whose father Sheikh Mohammad Mafik was killed by a group of men, one of whom was a member of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), on August 15 after Abdul merely attempted to document the lack of basic amenities at a local primary school, said he wants a school for poor children as a tribute to his late father.

CJP representatives, led by party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka, visited Abdul on Sunday (August 16) and assured him that CJP would not rest until they sought compensation for his family. In response, Abdul reportedly said, "I don’t need compensation, but a school for poor children as a tribute to my late father," according to an X post by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke.

Ranka, while speaking to reporters after meeting with the family, said, "Think about this kid's mindset, what a great mindset he must have that he is not even asking for compensation."

"His grandmother said 'Inqalab Zindabad! Jeet tum logo ki hogi. (Long live the revolution! Victory will be yours.)' Just imagine the upbringing he has had. What a great man his father must have been," he said.

Ranka added that Nirmal Kumar Dhara, the constituency's MLA who is also a part of the BJP, thinks of himself as a gunda (don) and that he has not yet faced the country's 'cockroaches.' "All BJP goons that are roaming freely in the country, we are giving you a last warning. Mend your ways or you'll be forced to do so," he said.

Dipke, who shared the exchange on his X page, wrote, "Abdul lost his father to the politics of hate. His father was murdered by members of the BJP, yet Abdul remains determined to improve the schools in his locality."

Abdul had gone to Karishunda Paschimpara Primary School in West Bengal on August 13 as part of the CJP's ‘School Thik Karo (fix the schools)’ campaign that seeks to highlight the systemic gaps, administrative pitfalls and pervasive disregard for student welfare plaguing the country's governmental schools.

During his visit, Abdul spoke to students about the state of necessary provisions like clean drinking water and proper sanitation at the school, demanding accountability and a more empathic policy. Shortly after his visit, on India's 80th Independence Day, Abdul's father was allegedly attacked with sticks and iron rods by a group of men at their family home in Karishunda village, following which he succumbed to his grave injuries.
