Yogendra Yadav, the National Convenor of the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan and a petitioner in the Special Intensive Revision case said that the assurance given by Justice Surya Kant at the September 1 hearing on the use of Aadhaar for the SIR is a lifeline for many of the 7.24 crore voters who are presently on the draft electoral rolls but have only been able to provide Aadhaar as their supporting documents, which is not among the 11 documents required by the Election Commission. This could be a lifeline for up to two crore voters who might otherwise be struck off the draft electoral roll because they only have Aadhaar, he said.
