In Photos: How Thousands Marched for Peace and Unity in Kolhapur

A few days ago, there was a situation akin to a riot in Kolhapur, arising from a dispute regarding the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. A march attempted to restore the city's peace and brotherhood.

Kolhapur city has a tradition of equality and social harmony, inspired by the legacy of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. To uphold this tradition, thousands of people participated in the Shiva-Shahu Sadbhavana Yatra organised by the Rajarshi Shahu Salokha Manch.

A few days ago, there was a situation akin to a riot in Kolhapur, arising from a dispute regarding the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Stone pelting incidents were reported in some areas, which led to tension. In response to these events, the march was organised with the primary objective of restoring peace and harmony.

The march saw significant participation from college students, women, and individuals from political and social sectors. It commenced from the main road of the city, with youth carrying banners bearing social messages as they marched forward.

Representatives from the Muslim community participated in large numbers at the yatra. Some are seen carrying a poster of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj.

Posters showing Kolhapur’s commitment to remaining progressive were visible during the Yatra.

Members and supporters of the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party, several farmers’ unions, and Chhatrapati Shahu’s descendants were at the Yatra.

Women turned up for the Sadbhavana Yatra in large numbers.

Banners displaying social messages from Babasaheb Ambedkar and Annabhau Sathe were seen at the yatra.
