New Delhi: The X account of the research group 'Hindutva Watch' was withheld in India on Tuesday (January 16), in response to a legal demand.

The group says on its website that it "reports of attacks on the members of minority and marginalised communities for their faith by the radicalised Hindus and the Hindutva militia groups in India".

Raqib Hameed Naik, the founder, told the media that he received an email about the development on Tuesday, saying that the Government of India had said the account violated sections of the IT Act.

Naik told Scroll that this would not deter the group from continuing with their work. “This won’t deter us from our work, and we will continue undeterred,” he said.

Hindutva Watch brings out reports on attacks and hate speech against minority communities in India. In September last year, the group published a study that said the first six months of 2023 alone saw over 250 documented gatherings involving anti-Muslim hate speech, most of which were delivered in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and nearly 70% of which were reported in states with legislative elections either in 2023 or 2024.
