Man Suspected of Raping Teenager Lynched by Mob in Jharkhand

New Delhi: A man who was accused by villagers in Jharkhand’s Chatra district of raping a minor girl, was beaten to death on Tuesday (August 4). Authorities have said that allegations of rape against the deceased are yet to be confirmed reported Indian Express.

The man, identified as Mohammed Imroze was allegedly assaulted by a mob of 100-150 people who reached their home on Tuesday and accused them of forcibly keeping a girl from the village at their home.

The crowd later tied up the parents of  Imroze and started assaulting him after the family denied the allegations of forcibly keeping a girl against her will, says the complaint filed by Mohammed Sultan, the father of Imroze.  When they denied this, people in the crowd tied up the man’s parents and assaulted them, the complaint said.

According to the FIR, when Imroze came to rescue his parents, the mob attacked him with sticks and stones.

His father of Imroze has also alleged that some police personnel were present during the incident. According to some reports, the victim was jailed in 2023 in a rape case, the Indian Express report added.

It has also been alleged in the complaint that videos of the assault were recorded and circulated on social media.

According to block development officer (BDO) Deolal Oraon, 10 people have been detained in the lynching case.

Oraon told Indian Express that a girl from the village went missing on Monday (August 3) night and after she was found on Tuesday, she reportedly alleged that she was confined at the house of Imroz.

Thereafter, villagers had gathered and stormed the victim’s home, said the BDO.

“The girl has been sent for medical examination, and the administration is awaiting the report before drawing any conclusions regarding the allegations,” added the BDO.
