Three Months After Demanding Rs 20 Lakh, Threatening Case Against Muslim Man, Seven UP Cops Booked, Suspended

In the custody, Salman claimed that he was beaten, psychologically and physically tortured and abused. Further, he alleged that he was released only after his family arranged and gave Rs 6 lakh to the accused police personnel.

New Delhi: Three months after allegedly detaining a businessman named Salman, extorting money from him, and threatening to file a false case on him and shoot him on the leg, in case he refused to comply with their monetary demands, seven police personnel in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh have been booked after an inquiry and suspended.

The FIR pertaining to this case has been filed on Friday (July 31) against sub inspector Arun Kumar, then station house officer Neeraj Malik, constable Yogesh, and four unidentified police personnel at the Sikandrabad police station in Bulandshahr, The Indian Express reported.

As per the FIR, Salman, a resident of the Risaldaran area of Bulandshahr who runs a dairy business, alleged that he was stopped by the policemen at a poll plaza on April 30 and forcibly taken to the Sikandrabad police station.

Even after he asked repeatedly, the police didn't tell him why he was being detained. They instead demanded Rs 20 lakh, "warning that if he failed to arrange the money, they would falsely implicate him in a case under the narcotics law and shoot him in the leg in a staged police encounter," the IE report mentioned.

This was not all.

Salman mentioned that before releasing him the police even threatened to kill him and file a fabricated criminal case against him and his family members if they spoke about the incident. He suggested that the investigating officials could verify his claims through the CCTV footages of the toll plaza and the police station.

Now, a case has been filed after an inquiry under charges of voluntarily causing hurt, extortion, wrongful confinement, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and criminal intimidation, Bulandshahr circle officer, Deepak Kumar, told IE. He also said that the seven police personnel have been suspended.
