Watch | When Will Justice Arrive for Dr Kafeel Khan and the 'Bhima Koregaon' Activists?

While a pandemic rages, several academics, activists and lawyers remain behind bars on charges that are at best controversial.

The hearing on the bail plea of Dr Kafeel Khan was deferred on Friday as the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the functioning of the Allahabad high court. Dr Khan was arrested on December 13 last year for his “inflammatory remarks” at an anti-CAA protest at AMU.

Like him, the 11 activists who have been accused of involvement in the Bhima Koregaon case have had their pleas for bail repeatedly deferred, even though the causes behind their arrests are flimsy to begin with.

The Wire’s senior editor Arfa Khanum Sherwani explains the issue.
