Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, was arrested on Tuesday, July 9, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of Kaveri Nakhwa. The 24-year-old suspect had been evading authorities for three days before being apprehended near Mumbai, Outlook reported.
The accident occurred on July 7, when a BMW driven by Mihir Shah collided with a scooter near Mumbai Central, inflicting severe injuries on 45-year-old Nakhwa and her husband, Pradeep. The couple was returning from a wholesale fish purchase near Crawford Market when the incident took place. Nakhwa was discovered near the Sea Link, approximately two kilometers from the collision site, and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nair Hospital.
Police reported that the BMW, registered in Rajesh Shah’s name, had an expired insurance policy since May. Following the accident, Mihir allegedly switched seats with his driver, Rajendra Singh Bidawat, and both attempted to flee. Six police teams were deployed to locate Mihir, who was ultimately arrested in Virar, Palghar.
In court, the police presented CCTV footage capturing the seat exchange and provided details on how the car dragged Nakhwa’s body for about two kilometres. The court extended Bidawat’s police custody until July 11. Meanwhile, Rajesh Shah, who allegedly instructed his son to flee, was granted judicial custody and later released on bail.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasised that all involved individuals would face justice, regardless of their political affiliations. He assured the public that the investigation would be impartial and thorough.
