On July 11, a gang rape survivor and her two aides were sent to jail in Araria on charges of contempt of court. The National Commission for Women and the Bihar State Commission for Women took cognisance of this case, and many lawyers also requested for their release.

The court's move not to grant the two bail, that too in the middle of a pandemic, is being criticised. Conversations around courts being insensitive to rape survivors have also been reignited.
