New Delhi: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Wednesday (June 12) morning, a day after security forces killed a militant in the same district.

Wednesday's violence took place during a search operation in the Kootah area, The Indian Express reported. Militants hiding in a forested area opened fire during the operation, the report said. The search operation is still in progress.

On Tuesday night, six people, including five soldiers, were injured when militants attacked a joint checkpoint of police and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. 'Kashmir Tigers', reportedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohamed, claimed responsibility for the attack.

This was the third such attack in J&K just this week. On Sunday afternoon, at least ten pilgrims died in a terror attack which took place in Teryath village near Shiv Khori area of Reasi.

People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti called the Doda attack cowardly and senseless. "A huge matter of concern that three terror incidents have occurred in just a span of 72 hours. Why are these security lapses taking place in the first place? Prayers for the swift recovery of those injured," she said.

Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party said, "Devastated by the terror attacks in Kathua & Doda and the martyrdom of a CRPF Jawan in Hiranagar. The surge in terror attacks in Jammu is alarming. This disruption of peace must be addressed urgently. Praying for everyone's safety. The government needs to take strong measures against terrorism."
