Ferozepur Woman Hurt in Pakistan Drone Attack Succumbs to Burn Injuries
Jalandhar: Five days after she sustained severe burn injuries following a drone attack by Pakistan, 50-year-old Sukhwinder Kaur, of a Punjab village, succumbed to injuries in the early hours of May 13.
Sukhwinder, her husband Lakhwinder Singh, and son Jaswant Singh had sustained severe burn injuries on the night of May 9, after a drone fell on their house.
The family live in the Khai Pheme Ki village of Ferozepur district.
Sukhwinder and Lakhwinder were referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital at Ludhiana from Ferozepur after doctors considered the scale of the burns. Their son is under treatment at Ferozepur.
Multiple videos of the blast that led to the burn injuries were shared on social media. They show significant damage to their house, car, and other belongings. In the footage, the car was engulfed in fire. Villagers were seen rushing to save the victims and attempting to put out the flames.
Pakistan’s drone and missile attacks following Operation Sindoor have so far killed two people and injured 10 in Punjab, according to reports.
India has so far not given an official figure for civilian deaths. There have been five military deaths and at least 20 civilian deaths, according to reports.
India launched the operation against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 26 tourists on April 22.
Earlier, a Haryana-origin labourer was killed in Akalia Kalan village of Bathinda district, where debris of an unidentified fighter aircraft had falled. The incident also left nine injured.
Govind, a resident of Charkhi Dadri village of Haryana lost his life after a blast. Eyewitnesses had told The Wire that Govind was perhaps the first to spot the aircraft and had rushed to record a video when the tragedy took place.
Ferozepur, one of the border districts of Punjab, has seen drone incursions from Pakistan in the last three days, following the ceasefire announcement on May 10, as well.
Other border districts of Pathankot, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala have also seen such activity.
Reports of drone sightings in some parts of Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Hoshiarpur districts on the night of May 12 led to a partial blackout by the district administration on the instructions of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Similar reports had also emerged from some parts of Jammu region.
