New Delhi: The Indian Army has asked the Pakistan Army on Wednesday (April 2) to uphold the tenets of Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) understanding of 2021 to ensure that peace is maintained along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace along the LoC and emphasised the importance of adhering to the agreement entered in 2021, reported The Hindu.
The Indian Army’s appeal to Pakistan for adhering to the 2021 agreement came a day after the troops of the two countries exchanged fire along the LoC in Poonch’s Krishna Ghati Sector.
An Army spokesman stated that a mine blast occurred on Tuesday (April 1) in Krishna Ghati Sector “due to Pakistan Army intrusion across LoC”.
“This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army. Own troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. Situation is under control and being closely monitored,” said the Army.
Ever since the 2021 agreement, wherein the two armies reiterated to abide by the 2003 Indo-Pakistan ceasefire agreement in Jammu and Kashmir, there have been a very few incidents of violations.
However, this year the frequency of violations has been on the rise.
An exchange of fire between the troops of the two countries took place on February 16 in Poonch’s Gulpur sector, following which the Indian Army accused the Pakistan Army of “unprovoked firing”.
On the other hand, the Pakistani media claimed that two Pakistani soldiers were injured in a ceaefire violation on February 12.
A total of six skirmishes were witnessed on the LoC in Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts in January and February this year, with two soldiers, including a captain being killed.
Two other soldiers were hit by snipers from across the LoC.
