This is the third attack on a BJP leader or worker in the last week, which saw the first anniversary of the revocation of Article 370.

Srinagar: A BJP worker was shot at in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir early Sunday morning, the police said.

A police official said suspected militants fired upon Abdul Hamid Najar, a resident of Mohiendpora area of Budgam in central Kashmir, leaving him injured.  Najar was shifted to a hospital and further details on his condition were awaited, the official added. The BJP worker was reportedly out on a morning walk.

This is the third attack on a BJP leader or worker in the last week. A sarpanch was killed in South Kashmir’s Qazigund area on Thursday. The sarpanch, Sajjad Ahmad, was attacked outside his residence, the police said. He was rushed to the hospital where authorities declared him brought dead. Another sarpanch Arif Ahmad Shah was also critically injured in the attack by terrorists in the same district.

After Shah was injured in the attack, three BJP activists resigned from the party this Wednesday, the Hindustan Times reported. One of them, Kund constituency president Nisar Ahmad Wani, told the newspaper, “I am an unlettered person and earn my living as a labourer. I think it is better to focus on feeding my family without any stress.”

The resignations came on the first anniversary of the revocation of Article 370.
