New Delhi: A migrant worker from Bihar was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district very early on Friday, August 12. This is the second time this month that a Bihar labour has been shot dead in the Union Territory.

The attack took place around midnight, police said.

The labourer, Mohammad Amrez, is the son of Mohammad Jalil. Originally from Madhepura Besarh in Bihar, he lived at Bandipora’s Soadnara Sumbal, Kashmir Zone Police noted in a tweet.

Some reports say that Amrez was 19 years old.

Police wrote that Amrez was “fired upon and injured” by terrorists.

The police said Amrez was taken to a hospital for treatment where he succumbed to injuries.

Police have not revealed whether this was a targeted killing.

Amrez’s brother was quoted by news agency ANI as having said that he was woken at 12.20 am with news of the firing and that when he went to look for Amrez, he found him lying in a pool of blood.

This comes a day after four soldiers were killed in a gunfight when a suspected suicide group tried to enter an Army camp in J&K’s Rajouri district.

Earlier this month, another labourer from Bihar was killed and two others were injured in a grenade attack by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Attacks on non-locals by militants have spiked this year in Kashmir.
