New Delhi: A child was killed and four people were injured in an explosion in Dangri village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Monday – a day after four civilians were killed and five others injured in "indiscriminate firing" by militants on three houses in the area.

The injured have been taken to hospital, PTI reported.

The powerful explosion on Monday, according to the Indian Express, was at one of the three houses that had been attacked on Sunday. Police sources told the newspaper that while it was not immediately clear whether the explosion was caused by an IED or grenade, it was likely that militants had planted the IED to ensure more casualties during the investigation.

Additional Director General of Police, Jammu, Mukesh Singh, confirmed that a child had died in the explosion and said another child was critical, the Indian Express reported.

Protests are being held in Rajouri over the administration's alleged inability to ensure security. Several organisations including traders’ bodies have called for a general strike in the district today.

On Sunday, two militants appeared in the village around 7 pm and opened indiscriminate firing on three houses and fled, officials said, quoting eye witnesses, according to PTI.
