A little fire to take away the chill of a winter night is enough
A warm touch to thaw a cold heart is enough
A fond memory to break the desolation is enough

A flickering light to defeat the darkness is enough
A word of faith amidst chaos is enough
A hint of sombreness to hold the joy is enough, and
A dash of joy to pierce melancholy is enough
A friend’s unannounced visit to brighten the evening is enough
An honest prayer to lift the curse is enough
A consoling word in despair is enough
A small step to begin that long journey is enough
A little failure to burgeon humility is enough
An unexpected victory to invoke gratitude is enough
A brief travel to bring you home is enough
A short stroll to settle a restless mind is enough
A moment alone to anchor the soul is enough
To live the most very little is more than enough!

Kanishk Chaudhry finds meaning in silence and magic in the smallest things.

We’ve grown up hearing that “it’s the small things” that matter. That’s true, of course, but it’s also not – there are Big Things that we know matter, and that we shouldn’t take our eyes, minds or hearts off of. As journalists, we spend most of our time looking at those Big Things, trying to understand them, break them down, and bring them to you.

And now we’re looking to you to also think about the small things – the joy that comes from a strangers’ kindness, incidents that leave you feeling warm, an unexpected conversation that made you happy, finding spaces of solidarity. Write to us about your small things at thewiresmallthings@gmail.com in 800 words or less, and we will publish selected submissions. We look forward to reading about your experiences, because even small things can bring big joys.
