Karan Thapar
In an interview to discuss the launch of his new book Secession of the Successful: The Flight Out of New India, which is how he describes the accelerating migration of extremely wealthy businessmen, and which started roughly 10 years ago in 2014, Sanjaya Baru says that wealthy businessmen who leave India and give up its citizenship “lack nationalism” and their behaviour is “improper and ethically wrong”. He says they are “morally” letting the country down.
This 35-minute interview discusses what Baru calls the secession of the successful. Quoting Morgan Stanley he says some 23,000 Indian millionaires have left the country since 2014. He says “Indians now account for close to 10% of golden visa holders worldwide.” More importantly, the secession of the successful is accelerating and gathering momentum.
