Lahore's Aitchison College Dedicates Classroom to Former Punjab CM Harcharan Singh Brar

New Delhi: In a gesture of friendship that transcends geographical borders, the Aitchison college in Pakistan’s Lahore on Wednesday (June 10) dedicated a classroom to former Punjab chief minister Harcharan Singh Brar.

Classroom number 108 of the Aitchison college was dedicated to Brar after Pakistan-based industrialist and philanthropist Syed Babar Ali, who was Brar’s lifelong friend and former classmate, donated Pakistani Rs 4 million for the purpose, reported The Tribune.

Ali attended the dedication ceremony online on Wednesday. Babli Brar, the daughter of the former chief minister travelled from India to Lahore for the occasion and unveiled the plaque outside the classroom.

The plaque has the inscription "God is One" in English, Gurmukhi, and Urdu.

Brar had joined the Aitchison College in 1937 and was an outstanding student, school prefect and was awarded the Rivaz gold medal, reported Dawn.

Brar also excelled in at games and earned colours in riding, tennis and cricket, which gave him the full blazer, a coveted achievement in the college.

“I have had the privilege of enjoying Brar’s friendship ever since we were classmates in 1937. He remained my best friend till he passed away in 2009. He and his family regularly visited us in Lahore and were warmly welcomed by my larger family,” said his friend Ali on the occasion.

During his last 1989 visit to Lahore, the former Punjab chief minister had inaugurated a library at Aitchison College and dedicated it to Ali, his lifelong friend.
