New Delhi: Osman Hadi, the 32-year-old leader of the students' movement in Bangladesh, who was shot on December 12 and succumbed to his injuries in Singapore on December 18, was laid to rest in Dhaka today, December 20.

Hadi was laid to rest at the central mosque of the Dhaka University, within the mausoleum premises of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, BBC Bangla reported.

The report said that Hadi's funeral prayers were held at the South Plaza of the national parliament building.

Among those who attended the prayer meeting were the Bangladesh interim government's chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, who said that Hadi will live forever in the hearts of Bangladeshis.

“People are praising your words and your vision, dear Hadi. We accept that wholeheartedly; may it stay alive in our minds always, so that we can follow it,” he said.

Members of the advisory council, and leaders and activists of various political parties were also present.

Osman Hadi’s family and the Inquilab Mancha – a platform which Hadi was the spokesperson of – demanded the arrest of his killers.

Hadi's death had triggered violent protests across Bangladesh, targeting newspaper houses, a prominent cultural organisation as well as an Indian consulate.
