ICC Mocked for WTC Video Spotlighting Jay Shah Over Players, Briefly Deletes Video

New Delhi: Mocked for posting a celebratory video about the World Test Championship (WTC) that heavily featured Jay Shah, the International Cricket Council (ICC) temporarily deleted the video from its social media handles. The video was later reposted with a correction in the accounts tagged in the original post.
Jay Shah, son of Union home minister Amit Shah, is the ICC’s current chairman.
The video was meant to the mark the end of the WTC which was won by South Africa. It showed the two teams walking into the ground, the audience cheering the players and the winning team interspersed with shots of Shah.

Internet users and sports journalists were quick to point out that the footage was dominated by Shah instead of the players. Of the 23 shots in the 45-second long video, 11 were of Shah alone.
PA journalist Rory Dollard called the video “beyond weird” while Taha Hashim of The Guardian said that previous chairperson of the ICC, Greg Barclay, rarely received such treatment. Andrew Wu of The Ages’s too commented on the excessive focus on Shah in the video and said, “If you blink at the wrong time, you’ll miss the only shot of Pat Cummins. Jay Shah on the other hand…”
ICC later posted the same video on its handles without offering any explanation for the deletion. However, sports journalist Ben Gardner in a post on X said, "Glad the ICC deleted and reposted this. The incorrect tag they had originally was really winding people up."
"Deleted previous post to get rid of negative comments and reshared the exact same video again. What clown behaviour.." another user on X said.
This not the first time Shah has been criticised for hogging the limelight. The former BCCI secretary was previously criticised for “stealing team India’s moment” when he joined Rohit Sharma for a victorious captain's photoshoot with the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
