Watch: To Mark One Month of Wrestlers' Protest, a March from Jantar Mantar to India Gate

"The entire country is with the protesters – except the government," said a man present at the march.

New Delhi: “The Constitution is the same for everyone, yet a common man is arrested within 24 hours, and Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is able to remain free from arrest for one month?” said a protester who had joined the march to mark one month of the wrestlers’ sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar against the Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP.

Farmers’ groups and khap panchayat leaders have expressed solidarity with the protesting wrestlers and also joined the march on Tuesday (May 23). The protesters marched from Jantar Mantar to India Gate.

Members of the Bhim Army too joined the protest. “I am from Uttam Nagar Vidhan Sabha,” one Bhim Army member told The Wire, expressing the organisations’ solidarity with protesting wrestlers.

“If he had been Brij Bhushan Khan instead of Brij Bhushan Singh, he would have been killed in an encounter by now,” another member of the Bhim Army said.

Seven women wrestlers – including one minor – have filed police complaints against Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment. Two FIRs have been filed in the case, including one under POCSO, but the wrestlers claim the police and government are protecting Singh and not acting to probe the allegations or arrest him.

“The entire country is with the protesters – except the government,” said a man present at the march.
