New Delhi: A group of investors including Elon Musk has offered to buy the nonprofit that controls OpenAI, with an unsolicited bid of $97.4 billion.
However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman mocked Musk’s offer on X, the social media platform owned by Musk, reported Hindustan Times.
“No thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want,” Altman wrote on X.

Musk and Altman’s rivalry is rooted in their conflicting visions for AI. Over the years, the rivalry has intensified, with Musk, who is a co-founder of OpenAI, has become a critic.
He has repeatedly attacked Altman in recent times, accusing him of prioritising profit over AI’s ethical development.
Back in 2023 Musk launched his own AI startup, xAI, to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Musk had also sued OpenAI in 2024 for its ties to Microsoft.
