Manan Gupta is a PhD student at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru, working at the interface of evolution and ecology. His work spans studying theories of non-genetic inheritance to looking at behavioural ecology and social organisation of elephant herds. He combines modelling, simulation and data from the field to study these questions in greater detail. He thinks deeply about animal group sizes and how it changes with changing environmental resources.
