In an interview to discuss how India should respond to tariffs US President Donald Trump, Montek Singh Ahluwalia has said India should substantially reduce its tariffs across the board with exceptions in agriculture, and, if the need arises, reduce the exchange rate of the rupee.
In a 30-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Ahluwalia, the former deputy chairman of the planning commission, said India now has the self-confidence to be able to compete and does not need protection or 'aatmanirbharta' to protect itself.
